Guided Trout Float Trips
Western North Carolina & Eastern Tennessee
Fly fishing for trout from a drift boat can be the most rewarding fishing trip offered in Western North Carolina. Our guides have the knowledge and experience for all species of trout on many tailwater rivers in North Carolina and Tennessee. If you are new to fly fishing our guides can provide casting demonstrations at the put-in before floating down the river.
Float trips for trout are held year round on the Watauga and South Holston rivers in Tennessee. From October through May anglers can enjoy trout floats on the Tuckasegee in North Carolina. Depending on which river your guide decides to take you on will depend on which license is necessary to purchase.
Fly fishing is by far the best way to catch trout in our beautiful Appalachian mountains. Your guide will provide 4-6wt rods depending on type of flies and techniques used. Proven techniques include wet flies and streamers. Wet flies including nymphs and pheasant tails are commonly used during these months.
Dry fly fishing is once of the most sought after techniques used on our tailwater fisheries. If you are new to dry fly fishing our professional trout fishing guides can teach the techniques that will make a successful day on the water.
If you like fishing a streamer we have the guides that can prove to you that streamer fishing is all its cracked up to be. Streamer fishing in WNC is best in the early months of spring and the late months of fall. Typically when big trout are preparing to get hit with a cold front or a low pressure system, streamers are on a guides mind.
If you are interested in using spinning rods instead of fly fishing gear, let our guide staff know while booking so your guide will have the correct equipment prepared for your trip.
What To Expect
We provide our clients with the best boats and the best gear in the industry - we never fall short. Our guides are dedicated to making each and every trip the best guide fishing experience, hands down.
During your float you may drift 2 miles or 8 miles. This all depends on the conditions of the river and which stretch is performing better at any specific time.
All guided float trips will be outfitted with an Adipose drift boat or outfitted NRS fishing raft which provides ample room for passengers and is designed for fly fishing and spin casting. Your guide will provide all the fishing equipment including waders, boots, fly rods, fishing rods, flies, line, leader and more. Fishing licenses must be purchased separate on the NC Wildlife website or TN Wildlife website before the date of your guided fishing trip.
